Sunday, April 7, three of Brattleboro’s signature southern music roots ensembles will join forces to provide the musical soundtrack for a special dance party, to benefit the Brattleboro Women’s Chorus, and to celebrate the birthday of BWC director Becky Graber, 5 - 8 pm at the Vermont Jazz Center.
First up will be Bayou X, playing traditional and original Louisiana Cajun and Creole Zydeco music, incorporating New Orleans R&B and 2nd Line standards, as well as an eclectic mix of tunes from all over the Afro-Creole musical diaspora.
Second up, the VJC Samba percussion ensemble, SOVESA, will play a set of samba rhythms summoning up the spirits of the great nation and people of Brazil.
The evening will be closed out with a set from the Celebration Brass Band of VT, celebrating both the historical and the contemporary sounds of the New Orleans brass band musical tradition.
This will be a non-alcoholic event, with light snacks, sweet and savory, and non-alcoholic beverages served. Suggested donation, $10 - $50.
